3 ways to use Shopify Burst for your e-commerce store

On April 4, Shopify launched Burst, a new free stock photo site for entrepreneurs. Aimed at e-commerce store owners, all photos are listed under Creative Commons Zero License, making them free to use and edit without attribution. In a post on Product Hunt, an employee from Shopify described the service as follows,

“We built Burst to help entrepreneurs make better products, websites, and marketing campaigns. Most of the pictures are original photos that were taken in-house and are themed around trending business niches — everything from DIY beard oil to Aliexpress LED sneakers. Of course, there are more general photographs as well; you can find free images of food, sunsets, mountains and more.”

We’ll look at three ways store owners can use these photos to improve their site and marketing efforts.

Product Photography

Whether you’re working with models, mockups, or regular product shots, gathering quality photos can be timely and expensive. You have two options when it comes to product photography, a local independent studios or full service studios. Both of which can cost over $1,000 a day.

However, with Burst from Shopify, you have access to thousands of professional product photos that actually cover a wide variety of industries and niches. For example, the photo below depicts a simple pair of headphones, but it’s clear this is professional work and the quality of the image shows that. A product photo like this compared to a bland stock photo could be the difference for your potential customers.

Content Marketing

As a store owner, you most likely double as a content marketer. From newsletters to daily email blasts, your job is to get your content in front of a target audience. The most effective way to make this happen is through eye-capturing imagery.

This is exactly what you can expect to find in Burst’s photo library. The photo below serves as a perfect example. For any business selling culinary-related goods or services, food is going to be a significant part of your marketing efforts. Burst offers some excellent photos of different foods and dishes that would leave any chef impressed.

Social Media Marketing

Whether you market on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or Snapchat, you’ll inevitably need to share news, blog posts, updates, and stories with your audience. Most social media channels are flooded with millions of posts daily, making it difficult to stand out amongst the crowd to reach your customers. The right photo can go a long way when it comes to capturing someone’s attention on social media.

We recommend looking through Burst’s popular collections to find photos relevant to your posts. As you see in the photo below, one collection offers a variety of photos that either depict coffee or are at least coffee-related in some way. Replacing your logo or branding with a simple, yet compelling, photo such as this one can not only garner the attention of a reader, but will also lead to increased engagement rates.

Burst serves as one of Shopify’s most helpful offerings and is expected to grow as more photos and artists contribute to the site.
